Savoury Meat-Free Mince


For 1 Continued...
1 tbspn oil 1 tspn dried fenugreek leaves (methi) (optional)
50 gm meat free mince
60 gm celery (prepared weight) 1 stock cube
60 gm onions (prepared weight) 100 ml water
1 clove garlic 1 tspn mixed herbs
1 tbspn tomato puree 100 gm peas
3 tbspn chopped tomatoes  
4 button mushrooms  



  1. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the onion over a low heat until dark golden colour.
  2. Add the celery and fry over a low to medium heat for 10 min.
  3. Add the garlic and tomato purée and stir fry for 2 min.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, methi (if using), mixed herbs and mince and stir well, cooking for 2 min.
  5. Add the stock cube, 100ml of water and simmer for 10 min.
  6. Stir in the peas and continue to simmer for 5 min, adding water if the mixture becomes too dry.


  1. Serve with rice.


The savoury flavour is enhanced by the caramalised onions and this can take up to 1 hour if the heat is very low. Methi is dried fenugreek leaves and can be purchased from Indian supermarkets.
