Char Siu

1 pack pork loin steaks |
½ tspn black pepper |
5 tbspn hoisin sauce |
½ tspn Chinese 5 spice |
1 tspn salt |
touch of red food colouring (optional) |
1 tspn sugar |
runny honey to glaze |
2 tspn cornstarch |

Preparation
- Remove the fat from the pork loins. (1 pack from the supermarket typically contains 2 loins).
- In a suitable bowl thoroughly mix the hoisin sauce, salt, sugar, cornstarch, black pepper, Chinese 5 spice and optionally the red colouring.
- Place the pork loins on a plate and coat both sides with the hoisin marinade and set aside for one or two hours if possible.
- Pre-heat the oven to 200° C.
Cooking - 50 mins
- Place the pork loins onto a rack and roast in the pre-heated oven for 30 min.
- Turn the pork loins over and continue to roast for another 20 min.
- Remove from the oven and glaze with the runny honey, then set aside to cool.
- When cool cut the loins into about 1 cm wide and 5 cm lengths.
- This will be sufficient for 2 portions and can be refrigerated for a few days or frozen for future use.
